About Soy
Soybean exports were commercially introduced in Brazil in the 1960s, in Rio Grande do Sul and, in the last 50 years, expanded to all regions of the country. Its growth in the Cerrados of the Center-West and, more recently, in the North and Northeast regions, following the paths of rural migration of entrepreneurs and small producers stands out.
Among the factors that led to the expansion of the crop in Brazil, the following stand out: Expressive rise in soybean prices on the international market, from the mid-1970s. Making the product competitive in the international market; Facilities for total mechanization of culture; Replacement of animal fats with vegetable oils; Demand for soy in the feed for the then production of swine and poultry and competent enterprising farmers with managerial capacity.
Soybean is the main exporting sector of Brazilian agribusiness. The sector’s exports were mainly influenced by the expansion of average export prices. China is the largest buyer of soybeans in Brazil, accounting for 65.6% of total exports.
